Steampunk Garden
I made a quilt for Sizzix using two of their gear dies for cutting the fabric. That quilt was very manly gearhead quilt. While working on that quilt, I kept thinking of using all the extra pieces leftover when you cut the gears and how they would make great flowers. I made one block and was hooked. I kept making flowers with the gears and the leftover pieces. I even designed gearlike leaves. I had lots of leftover gears so I used them for the fence around the garden. |
Doc, I'm Seeing Dots
I made the background blocks of this quilt from every purple and gold fabric I owned. After putting the blocks together with the white sashing, I decided it would be cool to piece circles in pinks and gold and insert them into 3 spots on the quilt. The circles are actually pieced into the quilt background (not appliqued). The result are 3 subtle circles on the quilt. If you saw these anyplace else, you'd probably call the doctor. |

The pattern is Jacob's Ladder block is from my book "Off Center Patchwork". Just turn the block to make a pieced quilt with all straight lines look like it's moving.
Machine quilted
The piece won best in it's color category and best quilt in the challenge.
I got a little carried away with my Sizzix die cutting machine and wool scraps. The circles are 4", 2 1/2", and 1" circles cut with the Sizzix Big Shot. The three layers of circles are button hole stitched together and then stitched to the white wool base. Buttons are sewn to the center of each of the circle stacks to add a little interest. This is a great take along, hand project.
Beaded Evening Bag
A friend brought this beautiful Brocade from Nigeria.. I decided to cut it so I could have the crown in the center of the bag.
Heavy beading adds to the fabric.

Love is Blooming
I've always loved Baltimore Album Quilts so I decided I should make one. Love is Blooming is the result. I chose to use bright colors and a variety of old and contemporary applique patterns. The quilt was started when my oldest son, Martin, was in high school. He received it about 10 years later for his wedding. I still have have it at my house because they want to hang it and they don't have a place at their current house. It is all hand appliqued. Machine quilting was used in the ditch and completed with hand quilting in the open areas.

All Things Being Equal
I decided I wanted a hand project and to do something with equilateral triangles. It was randomly pieced with golds, rusts, and reds. The center was easy and so was most of the pieced border. When you got to the corners, the math problems kicked in. I had to figure out how to make the corner pieced triangles look equilateral when they couldn't be. Now you know my secret-all is not equal in this quilt.
